A National Epidemic Or An Astute Marketing Strategy?
The New York based “Early Show” felt this was worthy of reporting, so it must be serious right! This epidemic is so bad that magazine articles are popping up, media groups are forming and celebrities are using TV to raise public awareness. The question is, is it an epidemic of choice, or a lifestyle change brought on by today’s economic times.
This impetus National Epidemic is infiltrating every corner of Society, from our Homes to Malls, Schools and Work it has even established a presence at elite events such as the Opera!
The, nationally televised, “Early Show” did a story on it, Social Media groups are waging war against it, Magazines are featuring pieces about it and an entire Jerry Seinfeld episode was centered around it. What’s causing this Epidemic? Could it be a Lifestyle Change driven by hard economic times? or simply a Personal Choice?
As the “Early Show” often does, they ventured out in to New York City and interviewed several people on this epidemic. The opinions, in the interviews, clearly express that our National Epidemic is not a Lifestyle Change forced upon us by the economy, but simply Personal Choice a right bestowed upon us by the Great Country in which we live.
Alright! I have kept you in suspense long enough! It is time to reveal the epidemic that is taking over society, as we know it. Are you ready, the National Epidemic I have been leading up to is “Sweatpants”. Yep that’s it! Society is freaking out over the fact that Sweatpants are no longer confined to the gym or home. People are wearing them in public, can you believe that!!!! Apparently, it is socially unacceptable and is therefore being considered an Epidemic!
If you missed this “Early Show”, you can go to their website and view the story in the archive files. I believe it also shows the picture of the Marie Claire’s model wearing Sweatpants and High Heels. Yep, you read it right! She is rockin’ High Heels with her Sweatpants. Why you ask, because Roberts Rassi of Marie Claire’s, in his interview, said When wearing Sweatpants “You should always dress them up. Always, always wear a heel. Always wear something tailored, a sharp shirt, a blazer or something with a sparkle.” If you think about this, you can see how by following this advice, which you know people will do. The fashion industry has taken this Epidemic, I use the word loosely, and created today’s Hottest New Fashion Trend. What a great marketing strategy.
Why do I think this is a Marketing Strategy, and a ingenious one at that, because I am a Marketer, and we are always looking for unique ways to present and promote. This nationwide plea for Sweatpant Fashion is the equivalent of a “New and Improved” commercial presentation.
As for Roberts Rassi’s fashion advice, I can say with conviction that I will NEVER wear heels, a blazer or anything tailored or with a sparkle with Sweatpants. I work at home and want to be comfortable while in my comfort zone. I am an Internet Marketer, if you’d like to wear your sweatpants to work check this out.
Forever Comfy,
